The National, Monday 25th March 2013
THE national government will look into the 1990 Malangan Accord and
address it if some of the commitments to the Autonomous Region of Bougainville have not been addressed, Deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion said in parliament last week.
Dion said since the accord was signed between a previous government and Autonomous Bougainville Government in 1999, the government was not aware of it but could check it and advice North Bougainville MP Louta Atoi.
He said if outstanding issues were not addressed by past governments then the national government could deliberate on the outstanding agreements and advice accordingly.
Atoi said after 22 years, the accord was yet to be honoured.
