THE Southern Highlands government will be holding its first Provincial Executive Council meeting away from the headquarters.

Governor William Powi said they would be in Nipa and the provincial assembly meeting would be at the provincial headquarters in Mendi.

He said he wanted to take the two meetings closer to the people.

Powi said the national government had funded districts and local level governments throughout the country, which was the way forward for them.

Powi will be in the province for several weeks and is expected to travel around to see some of the projects initiated and to announce several new projects.

He will visit secondary and provincial high schools, head masters, principals and boards of management chairman of the seven secondary schools and nine high schools.

He said the meeting was to see the major and immediate needs of the schools.

He said so far K20 million was needed to improve all the education facilities in the province and has allocated K10 million in this year’s budget while the other half will be budgeted next year.
