Govt wins praise for new study programme
The National, Thursday May 29th, 2014
THE national government has been commended for introducing the School Learning Improvement Plan (SLIP) programme in the country.
Sirunki high school headmistress Peam Yakali said because of the SLIP, help was coming to their long-neglected school, which was set up by the Gutnius Lutheran Church in 1994.
She thanked and praised the government for the tuition fee free (TFF) subsidy policy, which she described as “a great relief”.
Yakali said SLIP was a good programme that aimed at improving existing facilities at schools and to bring new development to meet the goal in achieving quality education.
“Without facilities and without improvement, there could not be quality education,” she said.
Self-reliance became the norm as the school turns into vegetable and fish farming for dietary supplements, while the community participated and supported the infrastructure capacity building.
Yakali’s efforts won recognition last year, when the National Fisheries Authority came to their aid with K40,000 funding for the school’s inland fish farming project, while Wabag Open MP Robert Ganim gave K200,000 towards its SLIP program.
