TWO people, including a Grade Eight student, died last week in a road accident on the border of Southern and Western Highland provinces.

Eight others were reported to be still in critical condition at the Mount Hagen General Hospital, Western

Highlands, after the 10-seater vehicle they were travelling in overturned and ended up in a creek.

Village leaders Micheal Tapela and Alex Benda said by telephone from Pangia district, Souther Highlands, last Friday that the accident happened on Oct 21.

The vehicle was hired to transport building material for a church building in Taikopini village.

Tapela said 10 men, including the driver and the two who died, were taking building material worth K17,000 for the Assemblies of God Church in Taikopini.

The accident happened at Kaupena Village at around 1am.

The 10 people were taken to hospital.

The student  identified as Jack George, 19, and a carpenter from Mamune village, died later.

George and five others were from Taikopini Village.

The other victims were from Mamune in Pangia.

Tapela blamed the poor road condition for the accident.
