Grade 12 students out on missing exams

Letters

ACCORDING to NBC’s morning bulletin yesterday, grade 12 students from a couple of the secondary schools in Gulf will not sit for the national examinations for some major subjects because there were no teachers to teach them this year. The problem is said to have existed since 2012 and it appears that the political leaders and the bureaucracy from Gulf, if they do exist and operate in the province, failed to rectify that and other associated problems.
My heart bleeds for the innocent students whose future are now at stake because they will miss out on any chances of furthering their education.
We can only guess what they will become in their province or when they come into the nation’s capital and there is no other hope for them.
No wonder Gulf and Northern have been placed in the last and second-last placing over many years by the Education Department after their evaluations on performance by the schools and provinces nationwide.
I am appealing to their governor and MPs to find ways to assist these students and others before them who may still be struggling to find ways to continue their education.

  • The two governors must create incentives to attract teachers to teach in this part of the world. It is a sad scenario and requires a bold decision from political leaders to change things around for better tomorrow for the students.
