Graduates reminded to serve
GRADUATES of the University of PNG (UPNG) have been reminded to go out and serve people, including their own families.
UPNG chancellor Robert Igara stressed to the 285 graduates of the school of business and public policy the importance of service.
“Serve your family, serve yourself, serve your community, but importantly, serve your people, serve Papua New Guinea,” Igara said.
Yesterday was the start of a week-long graduation ceremony, held over five days, to accommodate the Covid-19 restrictions.
Today will be the graduation for the school of humanities and social science, tomorrow will be for the school of law, Thursday is for the school of medicine and health sciences and Friday is for the school of natural and physical sciences.
Igara said graduations were usually held in April, but had to be delayed this year because of the public health safety restrictions.
Vice-chancellor professor Frank Griffin said 10 weeks of last year’s programmes were disrupted by the pandemic, especially for students in their final year.
He commended those who made it through the “tough times”, who had to put in more time and effort to graduate.
