Grassroots sports get boost from NCD

GRASSROOTS sports have been given a boost with an injection of K100,000 from the NCD Governor Powes Parkop.
Port Moresby Suburban Sports Association chairman Billy Aki said Parkop had seen the need to improve sports and live at grassroots level.
Aki said the result of such financial support would see eight rugby league off-season competitions and soccer playing their finals this weekend.
All the off-season rugby league competitions were given K10,000 each for cash prizes and administration.
The off-season leagues playing their grand final games this weekend’s include Hohola, Morata, Kone, Bomana, Kaugere, Boroko, EHDSS and Morata Roots Soccer competition.
Aki said the Kone grand-final will be played on Sunday at Kone Tigers Oval after it was deferred for sometime, while Bomana will hold theirs on Saturday.
The Bomana champion will pick up K2,000, runners-up K1,000, third placed team K600 and the fourth K400.
The Kone A grade champion will win K2,300, runners-up K1,200, B grade winners K1,200, runners-up K800 and the women’s A and B-grade winners will receive K1,000 and K500 respectively.
K2,000 will be awarded to the Hohola A-grade champion and the runners-up will pick up K1,400.
