THE Greengold Liners are continuing their preparations for the National Soccer League New Guinea Islands Conference.
The New Britain Palm Oil Limited-sponsored side had their first trial match on Sunday after naming a 41-man train-on squad last week.
Greengold took on West Tribe in front of a packed crowd at the Mosa Soccer Field in Kimbe.
It was tough early on until West Tribe scored the first goal.
After the opener, West Tribe began to dominate possession.
But Greengold’s Greg Epali showed brilliant footwork to score the equaliser.
Lack of games under their belt eventually led to Greengold conceding a penalty in the 80th minutes.
West Tribe pounced on the opportunity to seal the match 2-1.
Greengold head coach Sam Abraham congratulated both teams for putting up a strong performance.
Abraham said the match had enabled them to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
Greengold’s second trial match is schedule to be held this weekend in Kimbe.
