Greens endorses 8, focuses on environment human rights

THE PNG Green party has endorsed eight candidates to contest seats in General Election 2022.
General secretary Andrew Kutapae said three women were among the eight candidates confirmed to contest.
The candidates include George Baure (Ijivitari), Cecil Siembo (Sohe), Bill May (South Fly) Ken Nawas (Ambunti-Drekikier), Ori Tadi (Markham), Carol Mayo (Vanimo-Green) and Rita Sailoi (Tewai-Siassi).
Kutapae said the Green party was established in 2001.
He said the party’s parliamentary leader was Ijivitari MP Richard Masere.
The party president is Wan Wak and treasurer is Jackrey Engas.
He said the party was a member of the global Greens network and a member of the Asia Pacific Greens Federation.
“We are a member of the Green family globally and the party is established in over 100 countries,” he said.
“Last month the Australian Greens won two senate seats and five in the lower house.
“We are officially endorsing eight candidates and we also have a few (affiliates) running as independents who have who have also shown interest in joining us,” he said.
Kutapae said the party policies were focused on environmental issues, climate change, protection of human rights, land and resources.
“There is only one planet earth so we have to protect it and its people,” he said.
