THE Seventh Day Adventist congregation on Sohano Island, Bougainville, broke ground for a new church building last Sunday.
Bougainville MP Joe Lera, ABG commerce minister Wilfred Komba and speaker Andrew Miriki witnessed the occasion.
Church elder Fred Poli said the church building would cost K250,000 of which K18,000 had been raised.
He said after the ground breaking, his committee would push for their fundraising efforts to start and complete the church building.
Miriki said Bougainville needed all the churches to work and support the government with all its rebuilding process throughout the
autonomous region.
He said that the ABG had budgeted K1 million this year to support the work of churches on Bougainville as it strongly supports partnership between governments and the churches after all they serve the same people.
Lera praised the SDA church for their continued support in educating the people of Bougainville with other churches such as Catholic and United.
He also thanked the churches for their tireless effort to mould the people to be good citizens.
Lera said that without the churches support in education and health the Government would find it difficult to serve the people in the most remote areas of the country.
