THE Morobe Independent Justice Association has called on the government to increase funding for the police fraud squad operation in Morobe.
It follows the arrest of officers from the Morobe Governor’s office over the alleged misappropriation of K1.3 million.
Association chairman Jasper Jema wants the government to increase funds so the fraud squad can check all accounts in the provincial administration and governor’s office.
“The group now calls on every Morobean to come forward and give evidence to support the work of police in weeding out all forms of corruption. There must be no interference with the work of police,” Jema said.
He said every public servant in the provincial administration must cooperate with the investigation because “the money belongs to the people of Morobe and not people who think they can use their position in the office to misuse funds”.
Jema called on officials from the governor’s office not to threaten the provincial administrator about testifying in court.
