THERE are no proper medical supplies and equipment to serve rural people’s health care needs, chairman of the Jiwaka Welfare Association Frank Goi says.
He said medical workers in the rural areas had been struggling to serve the people.
“I was working as a nurse for the past four years, especially in the rural areas. I haven’t seen medical supplies and equipment,” Goi said.
“I used my own hands to touch blood.”
He said as a rural health care worker, this had prompted him to seek medical aid from overseas partners to help patients in the rural areas to have better health care.
He will be travelling to New Zealand on Friday to attend a conference hosted by the New Zealand Medical Aid Abroad organisation.
“The purpose of the conference is to discuss how to get life-saving medical supplies and equipment
to people in the developing countries,” Goi said.
He said Papua New Guinea was one of the developing countries that was benefiting from the help of the New Zealand Medical Aid Abroad.
Goi added that the New Zealand Medical Aid Abroad had donated two 24ft containers with medical supplies and equipment to PNG.
He had partnered with local parliamentarians to bring in three more containers of medical supplies and equipment to be distributed to the rural areas of the country.
Goi thanked the New Zealand Medical Aid Abroad for helping the rural people with medical supplies and equipment.
