THE Madang Chamber of Commerce has hailed the visit by P&O cruise liner Pacific Aria.

The Pacific Aria arrived in Madang  on Feb 21 with about 1500 passengers most of whom were Australians.

They were on a 10-day cruise of Papua New Guinea and visited Alotau, Wewak, Rabaul and Milne Bay.

The chamber said many of the passengers were former Papua New Guinea residents who took time to revisit places they knew and to meet old friends.  It said the main event during the visit was a mini show held at Sagen Aben Park near Madang Resort Hotel where 14 cultural groups the Highlands, Sepik, Madang, Milne Bay, Bougainville and New Ireland performed for the tourists.

“The staff of DWU and Madang Visitors Bureau arranged this event, which was a success. Particular mention needs to be made of the excellent security provided for our guests by the Madang Police,” The chamber said.
