A GROUP of people completed a week-long language course in Bahasa in Aitape, West Sepik, last month.
Like many Papua New Guineans taking time out from their normal duties, this group of people were eager to know, understand and speak Bahasa Indonesia.
With the province bordering the Indonesian province of Papua, not many people in West Sepik understand and speak Bahasa.
Some think Indonesia is going to be Papua New Guinea’s gateway to the emerging and growing Asian economy.
Language teacher Janet Waflou facilitated the basic yet interesting and important five-day Bahasa language course at the Aitape Vocational Training Institute from Jan 7 to 11.
At the conclusion of the week’s training, there has been a growing interest in the language.
An added incentive was included in the training where Greg Waflow provided life management skills training.
