TWELVE men on murder charges were remanded at Buimo prison by the Lae Committal Court on Friday (July 29).
Esatu Nai, 32; Siko David, 22; Simon David, 21; Simon Asai, 22; George Ruben, 22; Felix Mathew, 21; Jack Kilamu, 25; Adrian Chris, 22; Daniel Kamdy, 25; Jordan Saka, 24; Michael Bugin, 22; and, Benny Peter, 23, of Labu-Tale village in Huon-Gulf, Morobe, were read their charges by Magistrate Lorna Sani.
The 12 were charged under Section 300 (1) of the Criminal Code Act.
Magistrate Sani also explained the committal process and told the suspects that the court would give three months to police to complete investigations and adjourned the case to Sept 2 for mention.
“Once the file is ready, the court will look at it and moderate.
“This court’s job is to only look at police evidence to commit you to the National Court for trial,” she told the suspects.
Magistrate Sani then remanded the 12 to Buimo prison.
Police alleged that on July 22, the 12 men were apparently drunk when they went to Labu-Tale village where one of them saw the deceased, Malanganu Mondo, and attacked him.
Mondo was helped back to his house and complained of pains all over his body.
He died a short time later.
