Group shows sympathy for shooting victims

A GROUP of Port Moresby residents came together yesterday to show their sympathy to the victims of a mosque massacre and their families in Christchurch, New Zealand.
They braved the rain yesterday morning to take part in their regular Active City – Walk for Life programme, using the event to pass on their condolence message to the relatives of the victims in Christchurch.
National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop led them with floral tributes to show their support to Muslims all over the world.
He said racism had no place in our global diverse world.
At the end of the programme at the Paga Hill Ring Road, the group prayed for peace for the relatives of the victims, bowed their heads and closed their eyes in silence to remember those who had sacrificed themselves in the fight against terrorism.
Parkop condemned the incident which sent shockwaves worldwide, saying New Zealanders were tolerant, accommodating, compassionate and diverse people.
He said residents of Port Moresby condemned the shooting and killing and stood in solidarity with Muslim communities worldwide.
