THE Western Highlands community in Port Moresby’s Tete settlement has called on National Capital District police to speed up investigations into the murder of a young man last Monday.
They have appealed to those reponsible to return the man’s vehicle.
Andy Kipa, 25, from Dei, in Western Highlands, was hacked to death by a group of men believed to be from Enga on Monday afternoon when he and a group of  friends tried to question Engans at the Gerehu Market about the theft of his taxi the previous day.
About two hours after the killing of the Western Highlander in a Gerehu supermarket, an Engan man was killed at the Baruni settlement – believed to be in retaliation by Western Highlanders.
However, community spokesmen of the Western Highlanders in Tete denied any payback killing, saying they were still in a state of shock and were not able to form a group to assess the incident.
They said  that since the killings, Gerehu police had been unable to attend to the complaint quickly enough or assure the affected family and relatives of any action.
NCD metropolitan commander Supt Andy Bawa said he had instructed the Gerehu Police Station commander and the officer in charge of criminal investigations to attend to the matter immediately.
