LEADERS in Hides, Southern Highlands, who were affected by a huge landslide that claimed up to 26 lives want the government to make a thorough investigation into the disaster to establish its cause.
Thomas Talipe, chairman of Tukupa Etoro and Resources Owners Association, said the government must investigate and establish beyond reasonable doubt that the cause was natural and that none of the quarrying or drilling operations in the area caused the landslide.
Talipe said leaders in Hides were in a state of shock and wanted to know what actually happened.
“We are friends of nature and have our belief that what was done was against the mind of the leaders and the people,” Talipe said.
He said the landslide had buried everything, including human beings, property and domestic animals.
He said what was done was a warning from nature to the government and the developer that something was not right.
