TWO ethnic groups living in Port Moresby are willing to stage peace talks after an ethic clash erupted last month, police say.
Gerehu police station commander chief inspector Hohoves Kora said  the people from Dei, Western Highlands, Wabag Central and Kopiam Abum, Enga, would be holding mediation talks next week to resolve their differences.
Kora said the parties are keen to hold mediation to resolve the issues surrounding the clash.
He said they wanted the issue to be resolved immediately in order for them to live their  normal lives  without fear.
He said at present the people were all living in fear of reprisal from each other.
Kora said this has greatly affected normal business and the community at large.
“Children from these three groups are not going to school because of the fear of reprisals,” Kora said.
Kora said the meeting, to be held on Sunday (April 6) at the Gerehu Sports Field is aimed at brokering peace.
Keasu peace committee chairman and Gerehu leader Joe Bona said his working committee along with the National Capital District Mediation coordinators will assist the groups.
Bona said the ethnic fight left innocent people living in fear and restricting their movements.
