THE Kragur Catholic Youth and Volleyball Association of Kairiru Island has thanked Wewak MP Jim Simatab for financially supporting their Christmas and New Year youth programmes.

Pastoral worker Lazarus Shorai said Simatab gave K1,000 – K400 for the Catholic youth group and K600 to the volleyball association.

Shorai said association chairman Philip Wamuk used the money for the youth basket exchange programme and to conduct awareness on homebrew and marijuana.

“The awareness was conducted by community and church leaders, government representatives, custom leaders and public servants,” he said.

“We are very grateful to Simatab because the awareness helped young people to understand the disadvantages of taking the illicit substances.

As a result, we are now experiencing peace in the community.”
