Growth centre concept working well in Kokopo
The National, Thursday 29th March 2012
THE concept of the growth centre hierarchy in East New Britain province is a classic example of all agents of government services working together to ensure people receive maximum benefits from service delivery, acting provincial administrator, Levi Mano says.
He said this on Monday when addressing members of the provincial coordination and monitoring committee (PCMC) during a three-day consultation workshop.
He said at the end of the day regardless of whether it was the provincial government or national line agency, they were serving the same people.
Mano said the objective of the workshop was to develop a comprehensive work plan, while at the same time serve the interest of the statutory agencies that were serving the people.
He said the growth centres in the province came about immediately after the disaster in Rabaul with the idea of spreading development, while at the same time inviting PCMC members to set up very close to the people and
working together with the provincial government.
He commended the outcome and commitment of PCMC members since its inauguration in 2012 as facilitated by the Department of Local Level Government Affairs and look forward to working together in the future.
Mano urged all stakeholders to identify common issues they could use to turn into success stories and a way forward.
