A SECURITY guard was wounded and several items were robbed from an Asian shop in Madang on Saturday, according to police.
Madang police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang said more than 20 armed men went into Wangs Trading pretending to be customers and then held up the guards and employees.
He said police were informed of the incident about 20 minutes later, when the criminals had walked off with the loot.
He said the guard was helped to the hospital.
Supt Rubiang said youths were working in groups and doing these things in town and other shops outside town and urged the public to report to police when they saw suspicious movements of youths.
“Police are investigating the matter. I hope some of them will be arrested and charged soon.
“I want the security operators in Madang to equip their guards with radios so when such things happen, they can inform the operations room and then the operations room will inform the police so they will respond on time and arrest the suspects.”
