THREE security guards accused of murdering a man by punching and kicking him appeared in the Waigani Committal Court yesterday.
Judh Gabriel, 20, from Western Highlands, Amos Pawa, 28, from Western Highlands, and Nathan Jacob, 21, from Southern Highlands allegedly beat up Mayson Ambui at Gordon in Port Moresby, resulting in his death five days later.
The offence took place on March 13 between 3pm and 4pm in front of Gordon wholesale – Desh Besh.
Ambui and his two cousins went into the store to buy drinks, pass time and wait for the rain to stop. One of them received a phone call and went out and Ambui followed him out.
When they were outside, Jacob, who was a security guard pushed Ambui as he was standing in front of the entrance.
Ambui asked him why he did that but he did not explain and another security guard punched Ambui.
Then Gabriel and Pawa teamed up with Jacob and they punched and kicked Ambui until a fight broke out involving other security guards and street boys. Ambui managed to escape home but was badly injured internally.
He was taken to Gerehu hospital but it was closed so he was rushed to Port Moresby General Hospital. He underwent surgery the next day.
He had his second surgery at around 3am on March 17 and was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where he stayed until he died the next day.
The matter was reported to CID homicide squad and on March 21, the three accused, who were members of Scorpion Security Guards, were arrested and charged.
Magistrate Ernest Wilmot adjourned the case to May 2 for mention.
