OFFICERS of a security firm in Lae have graduated with certificates from a PNG Ports-run course.

Armsec Security Ltd, located at 14-Mile, in Wampar local level government, Huon Gulf, joins another nationally owned security firm, Kuima, to provide security services at PNG Port’s facilities.

Among the participants is Naomi Tu, the only female out of the 28 participants in the course.

Senior security trainer Michael Gifiro, who facilitated the five-day course, said that the training was part of PNG Ports’ initiative for their external security providers.

He said under the international maritime organisation law code, it was important for PNG Ports to train security guards to meet the set maritime laws, policies and regulations to maintain and look after its properties.

“Currently there are only two accessibilities for cargo to enter the country – by sea and air  – of which we are tasked to put in place strong security measures to protect the Port’s interest,” Gifiro said.

Armsec Security general manager Koni Iguan challenged the guards to be good ambassador for Armsec in the line of their duty at PNG Ports.
