GULF Komara have secured the services of midfielder Amon Meki for the 2021 National Soccer League (NSL) campaign ahead of next Saturday’s season kick-off.
The 29-year-old joined Komara following a season-long hiatus due to his former club, Port Moresby United, failing to take part in the competition last year. “I’m really happy to be back in the game after a season out and I’m hoping to get something good out of this campaign,” he told The National last week.
“For most of the players who were at United, we were hoping for the club management to meet the registration and affiliation requirements last season.
“But when that didn’t happen, a good number of us missed out on the campaign.
“It was a bit tough to sit the game out and watch others play.”
But Meki said he was grateful for the opportunity given by Komara to come back and play. He said the Komara were a good team to resume his NSL career with.
“They (Komara) made the top-four last season and despite them bowing out in the semifinals, they showed a lot courage all season.”
The former United and Eastern Stars campaigner said he was thrilled about the upcoming season as he anticipated tough opposition in the Southern Conference.
Meanwhile, fellow Southern Conference franchises, Central Dabaris and Star Mountain, held club trials last week
