Gulf MPs need to wake up now

Letters

GULF can link Southern region to other regions and provinces through road network initiatives.
These road links can be initiated from Morobe, Eastern Highlands and Southern Highlands.
In fact, a rugged road link between Southern Highlands and Kikori has already been established for a liquefied natural gas pipeline.
Are Gulf MPs preparing their people in advance to accommodate this type of change?
Gulf’s connection to the National Capital District and Central by road has seen almost no tangible flow of services and other types of development activities back to the province for over 30 years now.
We have read and observed great efforts that were initiated by various elected leaders of a number of provinces and electorates who are investing heavily on human resources and other types of social and economic activities to improve the lives of their people.
They are beginning to reap the benefits of their investments.
Unfortunately, we have not seen this type of political leadership in Gulf for many years.
Gulf leaders are not showing if they have visions and passions to develop and improve the lives of their people.
We are lagging far behind others as far as economic, social and other types of development activities are concerned.
I can only predict that when roads and shipping ports are opened up in Gulf, we will be serving as second class citizens to people who would be better equipped and resourced to take advantage of the opportunities that would be available.
Unless the political leadership of the province has the will and the vision to do something now, we are going to remain backward and underdeveloped.
Leaders who are shortsighted and lack motivation should not be elected to hold public office.
The people of Gulf are making a call to their political leaders to wake up from their sleep and bring about changes that we deserve.
Our people have every right to see and know what your visions, development plans and goals are for them.
We have waited for far too long with hopeless sighing and are still waiting to see you bring about some positive changes to our province.
