THE Gulf Provincial Sports Trust (GPST) launched their strategic plan in Port Moresby recently.
The plan assured corporate sponsors and the Gulf government that the entity’s vision would spearhead sports in the province to a whole new level.
GPST chief executive Lawrence Lahari launched the plan which outlined the guidelines the entity would follow to ensure its progress in the future.
The plan targets Petroleum Resources Kutubu Gulf Isou’s participation in the Digicel Cup and Erema FC’s involvement in the Football Federation of Papua New Guinea, southern conference.
Other areas of the plan include development pathways and assistance towards elite athletes.
“The purpose of GPST is to coordinate and manage all sporting programmess, activities, policies and facilities in Gulf,” Lahari said.
“GPST will be more than just a sports trust.
“We are about grooming a generation of young people to be better equipped and prepared for life.
“Through these keys to success, we’re confident our province will be a leader in sports education and infrastructure in PNG.”
The plan includes a vision, which GPST will be committed to be the premier sports trust using best international practice and sustainable programmes to develop a high performing organisation for the region and PNG.
The mission in which the body will deliver the best sporting venue and facilities to manage teams and individuals in achieving their potential locally and internationally.
And the values, to be role models showcasing discipline, respect, passion and honesty.
In attendance as well, Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta described the GPST as new bird setting out from its nest and ready for a long and prosperous journey.
GPST Chairman Imbi Tagune ensured the corporate sponsors and the people of Gulf that the sports trust will do all it can to benefit the province’s sports men and women.
The special guest of the event was Australian, Queensland and Brisbane Broncos rugby league great Darren Lockyer, a usual visitor to PNG and the Gulf province.
The event also saw Football Federation of PNG Champions League winners Erema FC present the trophy to Governor Chris Haiveta.
While Lockyer was presented a signed Gulf Isou jersey as a souvenir.
