GULF Provincial Sports Trust says the passing of its chairman late Imbi Tagune last week has left a void in the organisation.
Tagune served as the chairman of the trust since his appointment in 2018 by Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta.
The trust’s board of directors as well as Gulf Isou (Digicel Cup) and Gulf Komara (National Soccer League extended their condolences to Tagune’s family, friends and colleagues.
“We are saddened by the passing of Late Imbi Tagune,” Isou chairman Mai Ori said.
“He was a true follower of sports. Hence, his appointment as chairman of Gulf Provincial Sports Trust in 2018.
“Isou were born out of this set-up as one of the trust’s flagship products, aside from Komara.
“He often referred to himself as a man from Kikori, having had long dealings with resource landowners through his role as Mineral Resources Development Company external affairs general manager.
“He was a great leader, mentor and supporter of rugby league, and was passionate about development of the game in Gulf by providing pathways for its players.
“He would proudly boast about his vision to export backline talent from Gulf to other franchises, especially boys from his adopted home of Kikori.”
On his last visit to see Gulf Isou Development players in late September this year, he reiterated his vision to build a stadium at Malalaua to give Gulf Isou a home ground.
“Sadly, it was not going to be, but his vision and legacy will be carried on,” Ori said.
“He was a proud Ialibu man who committed himself fully.
“His integrity and passion to see the Gulf team succeed was unquestionable.”
