MORE than 38 students from four high schools took part in Team Gulf’s athletics training camp  at Malalaua High School, Gulf province last week.

The week-long camp  conducted by PNG Sports Foundation officials Peter Aglua and Moses Tolingling  attracted students from Kerema High School, Don Bosco Araimiri as well as Malalaua and Kikori High schools.

Team leader Peter Aglua said he was pleased with the participation from these four schools especially students who gave up their two weeks’ holiday to take part in the athletics camp.

The students were put in four houses; Blue, Gold, Red and Green to complete in the athletics training sessions.

After the four days of  activities, Team Blue won the session with 43 points, closely followed by Team Gold on second, Team Red third while Team Green claimed the fourth spot.

The training camp also identified outstanding athletes with consistent performances who at the end of the camp, won themselves recognition in their various disciplines.

Aglua said one of the athletes Paimuru Royal won his 100m sprint (grass turf) in 11.09 seconds. Considering his time was run on the turf surface, he can reduce his timing.

Sandra Pisal clocked 14.1 sec in the females category.

In the javeline, Rennie Eita was outstanding while in discus Lorrain Ilave. In shotput,  Junior Dusty Waire was star while Haniha Maraua won the long distance race in a time of 3.55 minutes.

PNG Sports Foundation marketing officer Mary Nauga encouraged the students to adopt sports for healthy living.

She thanked all the students, teachers and staff from the schools for being part of the Team Gulf Athletic training camp.
