OVER 250 trade stores and 77 public motor vehicle (PMV) operators in Rigo have benefited from K500,000 allocated for small-to-medium enterprises (SME), MP Lekwa Gure says.
The funding was part of the K2 million Coronavirus (Covid-19) economic stimulus package provided by the Government.
Gure said the balance was used for agriculture and food security programmes and Wash (water sanitation and health) programmes in the district.
The Government had allocated K2 million to districts and K1.5 million to provinces.
Rigo was the third district after Moresby-South and Kavieng to submit its implementation report to Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey in the last parliament sitting.
“In accordance with the guidelines that came with the funding, K1 million was for agriculture and food security purposes rolled out by the district administration with electoral staff assisting with the printing of vouchers,” Gure said.
“After the implementation, a report was furnished by the Rigo DDA on how the money was spent and who received how much.
“The next half a million was for small and medium enterprise of which K250,000 was used for trade stores and PMVs.
“And for the other K250,000, we assisted registered PMVs, with 77 who received new sets of tires.”
