NATIONAL men’s football team head coach Marcos Gusmao arrived in Port Moresby early this morning via Singapore after leaving Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Sunday.
Upon arriving in Singapore yesterday afternoon, Gusmao confirmed his flight time with The National.
Papua New Guinea Football Association technical director Paul Isorua told The National yesterday that Gusmao would go into quarantine.
The Brazilian was supposed to join the 30-man squad last week, however, due to delays with his electronic visa, he travelled this week.
Meanwhile, PNG Football Association general secretary Pius Letenge said a youth team had already been assembled and would prepare for a trial match against the national team in the New Year.
“The team should kick off their preparation any time under a selected management team,” he said.
“They will be mentored by local coaches in Anthony Pakakota, Erickson Komeng and Nathan Vincent, among other National Soccer League coaches.
“The confirmed list of players and officials for the youth team will be released any time.”
Gusmao is expected to trim his 30-man squad to 23 players after some trial matches with local teams.
