THE opening of the highway connecting East and West New Britain is scheduled for next week.
The New Britain Highway was rerouted recently from the initial plan as agreed to by the provincial executive council, and will run through Gaulim in Gazelle district, to Rabaul.
Acting provincial administrator Wilson Matava said the highway would open up development opportunities in the hinterlands of the province.
He said other such projects include the Kokopo-Tokua development corridor and a road on the south coast that would connect Tokua to Tol in East Pomio and all the way Cape Glouster in West New Britain.
