WELGRIS Highlanders and Eastern Stars played out a 1-1 draw in their round 14 match of the Telikom National Soccer League at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium in Lae on Saturday.

It was the first match of a double header sanctioned to be played in Lae by the PNG Football Association.

The game started 16 minutes late after Welgris arrived late.

The game, like the women’s match that was played earlier, was scoreless in the first half.

It was dominated by the Western Highlands franchise and both teams were egged on by the chanting by fans.

Welgris opened scoring in the 58th minute when Eluda Powei and Henry Gawi combined for Andrew Apo to hit home.

The Eastern Stars mounted pressure and were rewarded six minutes before time with Junior Sasu sailing a well placed ball above the highlanders to Ivan Sevese who equalised.
