The newly-established Highlands Sports Secretariat (HSS) was set up to effectively improve communication with all seven highlands provinces in terms of sports development.
The chairman, Gabriel Brawa, said the set up was to improve communication with PNG Sports Foundation, PNG National Olympic Committee and other sports stakeholders throughout the country.
“The main function of the secretariat is to plan, arrange and facilitate regular training and development programmes for technical manpower, educational institutions and community-based organisations.
“Planning, arranging and facilitating regular inter-provincial exposure and talent development for advanced competitions are other functions of the secretariat.
“We will strive to unite our people in the region for maximum participation as major stakeholders,” Brawa added.
Brawa said the Highlands region must now unite to promote, develop, foster and control all sports activities in the region.
The establishment of the secretariat was endorsed by provincial sports coordinators and delegates from the highlands provinces who met in Jiwaka for the regional sports management workshop.
