THE University of PNG open campus in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, will offer courses and tutorial assistance online for students doing their degree and diploma courses.
Mt Hagen is second to Port Moresby where students will study online and this will help them to have access to get assistance from lecturers back at the main campus.
Lecturers will conduct courses online and students will sit and learn.
Two UPNG main campus IT specialists Isaac Manu and Gibson Ore were in Mt Hagen last week to install all the programs.
The UPNG main campus in the Port Moresby bought 20 new computer sets for the Mt Hagen campus last year.
Manu told The National last Friday that this is an opportunity for diploma and degree students who are studying at the open colleges.
“Mt Hagen is the second centre in the country to have students learning online with lectures and tutors from the main campus,” Manu said.
Acting centre director Mure Kale thanked the UPNG main campus for helping its open campus.
“Mt Hagen is one of the major centres that is helping students in many parts of the region and at the same it is offering degree and diploma course.
“This is my dream as the acting director to make sure students can receive the best learning,” Kale said.
He said this program will also benefit the CTCS (certificate in tertiary and community studies) students and this will also increase their knowledge.
“On behalf of the center I want to thank the UPNG campus for its support.
“Your support will do a lot for the students here and parts of the region,” he said.
Kale said in 2010-11 they did not offer computer related courses because the computers were out of order.
He said, however, the centre then managed to send a request to the main campus and it bought them 20 computer sets.
“This is a big change and I also want to call on the students to look after them properly so that it can help other students in future.
