Hagen district ELCPNG elects new office bearers

THE Evangelical Lutheran church of PNG (ELCPNG), Hagen district, elected new office bearers last Friday in the Dei district, Western Highlands province.
Rev Rauke Rawa was elected the new president  while Wari Kanapi was elected general secretary.
For the treasurer’s post Jacob Lama was elected unopposed.
The election was conducted during the 39th district conference of the Hagen district.
Twenty selected delegates from the 13 circuits within the Hagen district elected the new executives.
Rev Rawa, was acting on the district president’s position since 2006 after acting Bishop Rev Jau Rapa left to take up his new posting as the acting bishop of the district.
The new president won the election with two point’s difference after polling 111 votes.
Rev Teng Tengdui was the runner-up while Rev Kupi Kasi was third with 42 votes.
Rev Rawa thanked the circuits’ members for having faith in him and elected him after he acted on the position for some time.
He said he needed the support of the church members to continue strengthening the work of ELCPNG.
Rev Tengdui openly told the people that he accepted the election results and would support the president-elect.
He said since he was holding some positions within the church, it was Lord’s plan that the election result would favour the incumbent.
The new executives would be in the office for four years before the new election.
