WESTERN Highlands’ pioneer softball team Brown Eagles of Mt Hagen received T-shirts and caps worth more than K5,000 from the PNG Microfinance company last Friday.
The items were presented to club officials by branch manager Heki Erevu.
He said the bank was pleased to support a Highlands team at a national event.
The team travels to Lae tomorrow.
Erevu said although it was the first time the company had helped a softball club he was positive about future assistance.
“We’re giving to show our support to the sport that will represent the people of Western Highlands.
“We want to promote softball so that it can be a strong community sport,” Erevu said.
He said as long as the company is in the province such activities would be given some form of support.
“I want to encourage players and officials to play well and make the people proud of their achievements at the club championship.
Club president Eric Tadap thanked the company for its help and said the team had talented players like Samuel Ropa, Adie Maip and Patrick Toddy who could take them deep into the tournament and they were grateful for any backing.
“I believe that we will play better this time when we have such support from business houses in the province like PNG Microfinance.”
