GULF Governor Chris Haiveta has warned the Government that proper care and diligence must be taken when dealing with future projects and agreements.
Commenting on the six amendment bills on the Papua LNG tabled by Petroleum Minister Kerenga Kua yesterday in Parliament, Haiveta said it would ensure that bills and amendments tabled in Parliament had no flaws.
“I support all the amendments the minister has put through and is going to put through,” Haiveta said.
“I thank the Government for doing a review and pushing back as much as they can to ensure the issues of domestic market obligations.”
Haiveta also asked the Government to consider increasing the income tax credit threshold and extend it to companies outside the mining and petroleum sector to corporate entities so they could fund projects needed in rural areas.
“As the budget is being prepared, we need to lift the threshold to 2 per cent to make sure that at this time when we are in need for finances and projects are tied,” he said.
