Haiveta: Keep Papua LNG out of political drama
GULF Governor Chris Haiveta has called on commentators to refrain from using the Papua Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project to express their views on the current political situation.
Haiveta, pictured, said the Papua LNG had the potential to transform the province.
“The implications on the province for this project are enormous,” he said.
“I urge the people and the commentators not to use this project as a political football.
“This is a multi-billion dollar investment that has the potential to change the livelihood of our people and the future prosperity for province and the country.”
Haiveta said the job of the provincial government was to secure the best deal it can in terms of benefits from the project.
“There will come a time when we will have to sign off on it, there is initial agreement with prime minister, deputy prime minister and key ministers once cleared for the memorandum of agreement, we will set a date to sign it,” he said.
Kikori MP and Minister Religion, Youth and Community Development Soroi Eoe said the Papua
LNG was a best conclusion for the deal.
“This is a better deal and I’m satisfied,” he said.
“There are issues like business development grants and lots of benefits that will come to the people of Gulf and the country.
“We are making sure that our people have maximum benefit; we are looking at the long term benefits as well to reinvest.”
