GOMIS whiz halfback Skipper Mel slotted a magic field goal to register a 5-4 victory over Kindeng Settlers 5-4 in the fourth round of the Western Highlands Governor’s Cup challenge at the Kagamuga Showgrounds on Sunday.
Mel played a blinder for his side, Gomis, pushed their way into the Settlers 10 before he found a clearing to slot in the field goal to win the match.
Both sides put up a strong defence for the first 40 minutes as they held onto a 0-0 deadlock going into the sheds.
In the second half, Settlers’ workaholic forward Andrew Poly managed to cross the try line for an unconverted try to lead 4-0.
However, the try was short-lived when Gomis got their acts together to send winger George Benson over to level the scores.
Both sides proved outstanding in their defence and attack, and when it seemed the game would end up in draw, Mel took it up on himself to slot in the match winner with his classic field goal.
In the other matches, TW West defeated Minj 10-0, Jimmy Country thrashed Nongul 24-4, Hagen Doa beat Sonowaghi Banz 14-8, Kond East whipped  Kudjip 12- 4 and Dei Hunters edged Mul Norths 7-4.
Governor’s Cup chairman, Ninkints Tiptip, commended the teams for taking a positive approach to playing rugby league.
