Halifax will unleash their ‘beast’ Aizue

HALIFAX will unleash the player dubbed “a beast” by coach Matt Calland late last night’s Championship opener against Sheffield Eagles after Papua New Guinea Test prop Makali Aizue was cleared to play.
Fax officials confirmed last Wednesday that the blockbusting forward, a major close season signing from Hull KR, was still waiting for the UK Borders Agency to process his visa renewal.
Just 24 hours later, Aizue’s red tape nightmare was ended when the paperwork dropped through his letterbox on Humberside.
The 32-year-old was subsequently registered with the Rugby Football League last Thursday afternoon and is now a near-certainty to face Mark Aston’s side.
“It is great news, for the club and Makali,”  Calland said .
“It has been a difficult winter with the weather, the postponements and the problems we have had finding training venues and it is nice to have something go for us.
“Makali just wants to play, he is been pretty frustrated by the whole situation and I am hoping he is going to take that frustration out on the Sheffield forwards late last night.
“He’s just a beast of a man, he looks like he’s been chiselled out of granite.
“I am really looking forward to seeing him play.”
Aizue’s return, along with that of ex-Hull FC hitman Dominic Maloney, who declared himself fit to make his seasonal debut earlier in the week, gives Calland an embarrassment of riches up front.
With David Wrench, Neil Cherryholme, Frank Watene and Said Tamghart all available for selection, the biggest problem will be deciding who to leave out.
“There are going to be some tough decisions, that is for sure,” Calland said.
“This is the situation we wanted though.
“It is no secret that we went out to strengthen the pack over the winter and it’s good to have them all available for the first time.
“It should certainly make us a harder team to play against.”
