Hammers nail Diggers in Hebou shield final

THE Hebou Western Hammers outplayed a galant Digara Northern Diggers to claim the 2013 Hebou Shield T/20 Tournament. 

The Digara Diggers had to overcome a classy Pacific MMI team to earn a grand final spot in the morning match and set themselves a showdown with the favourites Hebou Hammers. 

The Diggers won the toss and elected to bowl first and sent the Hammers into to bat. 

The Hammers scored a challenging 134 runs in their innings from their allotted 20 overs. 

The Diggers had a tough run in their chase and were bowled out for 109 runs in the 20th over.       

The man-of-the-match was awarded to PNG Barramundis all-rounder Mahuru Dai for his 28 runs, and one wicket for 14 runs as well as four catches.

Other scoreres for Hebou were John Boge Reva (29), Anthony Vare (17) and Kapena Arua (19). 

Digara scorers were Sese Bau (38) who worked hard to keep his team in the hunt and was supported by Heni Siaka (15) and Bobby Diho (15). 

Hebou fielded well and bowled well with bowlers Loa Sisia 3/13, Raymond Haoda 3/18 while Joel Tom, Apolini and Toua Tom took a wicket each.

The women’s T/20 competition was won by Dulux Magic (135) defeating Pure Water Diamonds (96)  by 37.  

Mebo Pendel Ipi was awarded the player-of-the-match for her classy innings of 69 runs. 

Brenda Tau also starred for Dulux scoring 32 runs and took three wickets for five runs. 

The Hebou Shield will start their the 50 over competition for the men and 35 over format for the women’s competition next weekend.
