NATIONAL Under-19 men’s team bowler Toua Boe says elite cricket is all about sacrifice, especially amid the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
“I’m proud to be part of the Pacific International Hospital-sponsored U19 men’s cricket team,” the 18-year-old said.
“It’s because of the sacrifice I’ve made that I’ve joined the team.”
Coming from Hanuabada village that is home to some of the country’s best cricketers, Boe has grown up playing the game.
He has played for his local cricket club in the last three years.
Boe also comes from a big family of cricketers with footsteps to follow like Kumul Petroleum Barramundi Simon Atai and Lewas captain Kaia Arua.
“Cricket is a fun game,” the right-handed batsman said.
“It’s more enjoyable because you get to meet new people and make new friends.”
Boe said he was thrilled to make it this far, joining the training squad and now being selected to travel to the West Indies for the World Cup.
“Our preparations went well, but were difficult amid the Covid-19,” he said. “It took a lot of hard work and sacrifice.”
Like most of his teammates, this was Boe’s first trip overseas.
The National Capital District native said he was excited, but also a little nervous.
“I’m already prepared and can’t wait for the World Cup,” Boe said.
One thing he is most excited about is learning.
“I want to learn new things at the international level and experience a different culture,” Boe said.
He said playing the game at the elite level required hard work and sacrifice.
On his downtime, Boe enjoys singing.
