DESPITE the best efforts of National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop to lift the image of Port Moresby, some people still break the rules, according to Central Governor Kila Haoda.

Haoda raised the concern after two men from his province were killed – one at 4-Mile and one in Hohola – by thugs.

“These two young men were not killed in a hideout or a settlement, but right in the heart of the city,” he said.

“This is an indication that we are living in a sick society filled with people having problems with their minds and attitude.”

Haoda said the NCDC and the Government were investing heavily to change the city’s image and profile but bad attitude and mindset negate the good work.

“If you think that you are having a problem with your attitude and mindset, go back to your village and province. You have no place here in NCDC. You don’t belong here,” he said.

He said the urban drift caused by the search for jobs and a better life could be harnessed if district MPs provide incentives to keep their people in the districts instead of flocking to the capital city.
