Outgoing Personnel Management Secretary John Kali wants officers in the department to give acting secretary Taies Sansan the same support that they gave him.
Kali thanked the officers for their support over the last 40 years during an emotional handover ceremony at the Central Government Building in Port Moresby yesterday.
Kali, who had worked for 41 years in the department and served two terms as secretary, said they had achieved many things together.
“I would go through the list of our achievements and we will produce a book. We had transformed the public service in many ways that people don’t see.
“Today is Women’s Day and one of the important policies that we came up with is the gender equality in the public service,” Kali said.
“I want to give credit to the department for coming up with this policy to really encourage women to take up their post and their rightful place in the organisation. One of the key things that I did when I became the secretary in 2009.
“I remember telling the media that I will make sure a lot of women take leadership into the managerial and executive ranks in the public service and put more women into the workforce, and we have achieved that.
“I also said to introduce ethical leadership in the public servants. I said that I wanted to make sure that public servants coming into managerial positions and in the executive leadership become strong leaders who can protect the integrity of the public servants institutions.
“And through that we have come up with two important policies in helping the framework and fundamentals of a strong public service.”
Kali said that those policies had changed the public servants’ work attitude to become productive officers.
Public Service Minister Elias Kapavore attended the event.
