THE PNG Paralympic Committee announced yestrday the inclusion of Timothy Harabe, the only elite athlete in powerlifting to the London Paralympic Games this year.
Two athletes are now confirmed for the London Games.
The first is Francis Kompaon, a silver medallist in the 2008  Paralympic Games in Beijing.
Kompaon is now training and living in Brisbane, Australia.
Manager of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Powerlifting, Shooting and Wheelchair dance sports Athena Charitaki confirmed this in a letter to the PNG BSP-Digicel Paralympic team Chef de Mission, Dr Kefu Ma yesterday.
Harape is ranked 29 in the 75kg category, a placing he obtained in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India.
This also qualified him for the London paralympics.
In the letter, IPC confirmed that the 36 year old from Komo-Magarima in Hela would participate in the 75kg category in powerlifting at the Paralympic Games from Aug 29 to Sept 9 in London.
There are 20 sports slotted for the the London paralympic games.
An elated president of PNG Paralympic Committee Bernard Chan said: “This is a great achievement for PNG as this is the first time the country does not have to rely on wild cards entry but on merit.
“With the confirmation of Harape, PNG is the only country in the Oceania region to compete in the powerlifting event and Harape is now seen as the representative of the region,” Chan said.
