YOU can be anything you want be in life but it takes determination, vision and hard work to get there.
Steven Ariki, 30, from West New Britain and Gulf, did not complete his Grade 12 studies nine years ago because his school fees were not paid.
That did not dampen his spirits and he took to cleaning and maintaining apartments at Touaguba Hill, in Port Moresby.
“Someone told me one day that I cannot be cleaning apartments forever and told me to look at what I really wanted to do,” he said.
Ariki had always been interested in doing something practical with his hands and applied
for a course in earthmoving at the Commercial Training College in Port Moresby.
He was accepted but needed funds to pursue the course.
With great determination, he approached InterOil Limited to sponsor the first part of the course.
On Monday, Ariki picked up his cheque for K2,000 from InterOil’s corporate office at Ravalian Haus, Harbour City.
“I am on my way to realising my dreams. I chose this course because I want to particularly be part of the LNG projects in the country,” he said.
