A NEW hardware store will open this Saturday at 8 Mile outside of Port Moresby to serve the needs of local building firms.

Phoenix Hardware, part of Phoenix Builders Ltd, will offer its merchandise to small construction companies and do-it-yourself handymen, general manager Sam Loh said.

The 8 Mile area beyond the Jackson International Airport is the site of a large-scale residential and commercial development that also included those undertaken by Phoenix Builders, which is now building a number of residential homes.

Already, there has been a lot of earthworks and construction activity going on in the area.

Apart from housing estates, there are also industrial and commercial establishments setting up stores there.

Loh said the location was ideal for his kind of business, which was aimed primarily at nationals like do-it-yourself handymen and small maintenance companies because they could easily access what they need instead of driving into the city.

Phoenix will initially supply power tools, hand tools, timber, steel, plywood,  plaster boards and other hardware items.

Loh said: “The company would be assessing customer needs during the first few months of operations after the grand opening on Saturday to bring in more quality products.”
