HORNIBROOK NGI Harlequins Team 2 white-washed Defence in a one sided game to bag the Morobe seven’s title in front of a vocal crowd last Sunday at SCRUM Oval in Lae.
In the bowl final Unitech Reds minced 9-Mile Bullets 31-0 while Harlequins team 1 succumb to Bismark Pirates 5-19.
Harlequins dominated the whole show from the start when young Max Vali scored an unconverted try wide for his side to be in front.
The game seesaw until Harlies centre Jason Pitben did an overlap pass to Mali Patala who dash down the left side of the field to score to widen the lead 10-0 and moments later Pitben complimented his side with a try to go to the break 15-0.
The boys from Papuan compound open the second half try scoring spree to disarray the Igam boy’s defensive line for Pitben to crossover the line for his second try.
The try was converted by Clifford Vali for a comfortable lead of 22-0 and after the restart Robin Yaks increase Harlies points to 29-0 when he converted his own try.
Defence players despite trailing behind did not give up and were rewarded when Charles Sevese scored a try that was converted by Michael Roplean after the scrum win inside Harlies territory for 7-29 scoreline.
Young Kila Tau notched the final try for Harlequin after backing up Yaks to surge ahead 34-7 whilst Roplean response with a converted try to finish the match 14-34 in Harlies favor.
Harlequins walked away with K500 prize money while Defence received K300.
Pirates 1, Harlequins 1, Unitech Reds, and 9-Mile Bullets all settled with cash prizes.
