HARLEQUINS rugby union club recieved K2,000 from ICCC executive manager (finance and administration) Vincent Kirina.
Kirina presented a cheque to club treasurer Clarence Palin.
The money will go towards the club’s education programme which targets their junior players (male and female) who attend primary and secondary schools in Port Moresby.
The programme is an initiative of Under-19 coach Emmanuel Auru who mentioned his own development as a player and as a person while a Harlequins junior.
Auru credited the mentorship of club stalwarts Robert Doko and Paul Toua as the reason for him taking up a career in Law.
Auru said with such the support from ICCC they would be able to provide their juniors access to educational materials and resources that would help them.
“This is in line with our player agreement where we have each player sign at the start of the season, challenging them to not only abide by the club’s code of conduct but to also maintain certain grades or GPA’s in school,” Auru said.
“The club believes that it is important for our juniors to enjoy a balanced lifestyle with both sports and education and we thank ICCC for their support.”
